The SJ-200™ has been hailed as "King of the Flat-Tops" since its introduction in the 1930s with its Super Jumbo body design and intricate inlays. Featuring a solid spruce top with solid figured maple back and sides, the SJ-200 is a unique instrument with its body shape and size along with the tonewood combination. Featuring a long scale length of 25.5 inches, the SJ-200 has a longer scale length than the smaller J-45. This longer scale length gives the guitar a striking attack with piano-like sustain that is not found on other Gibson acoustics apart from the Advanced Jumbo from the Historic Collection. The SJ-200 is a classic for a reason and has stood the test of time as the "King of the Flat-Tops."
This Gibson Custom Select SJ-200 Standard features a Cobra Burst finish, which is first applied as a stain with the burst sprayed to blend the edges of the body. This gives the spruce top a cross-hatching effect that can only be achieved by this pre-staining technique. AAA flamed maple back and sides are on display through the stained finish. Striped ebony takes the place of the normal rosewood on the bridge and fingerboard. This specification is normally found on guitars like the Western Classic and SJ-200 Custom.
